Why We're DifferentAt VCA Kennel Club Resort & Spa, we truly care about our guests well-being. For over 30 years, we have hosted 1000s of pets from the area. And many of those 1000s have stayed with us multiple times. We have watched some guests start out as puppies or kittens and grow old with us. We cry along with the pet's family when we find out someone crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Our staff works diligently to make sure each guest is taken care of in a proper manner. We truly treat each and every guest the way we treat our own pets–with care, compassion and love.
Our facility offers some amenities not found at other facilities.
- We are not an animal hospital that offers overnight boarding. We are a pet resort. Our guests do not feel the anxiety they feel when going to the doctor.
- We offer a wide-variety of activities that fit all types of personalities.
- Our dog play area is outside in the sunshine, not in a stuffy building. Shade is of course provided.
- Our exercise periods for dogs are not just a quick jaunt to go potty. We offer a full 15 minute session–and our canine guests can have up to 3 a day.
Here at VCA Kennel Club Resort & Spa, we know your pet will love their vacation with us and look forward to meeting them!
Our HistoryVCA Kennel Club Resort & Spa began in the early 1980s as a venture between two friends, Sharon Marks and Joyce Meyer. They realized the South Bay needed an upscale boarding kennel when they could not find a satisfactory facility for their own pets. Most kennels at that time were dark and dingy and did not have a good reputation at all. It became their mission to change that–they wanted to establish a kennel with a focus on high quality care and exceptional customer service. After a year of planning and building, The Kennel Club of Southern California opened in July, 1983.
The Kennel Club of Southern California was the South Bay’s first boarding facility to include runs made of solid panels with a barred door, keeping each run a lot more quiet than the traditional chain link of the time. This allowed pets to be much more comfortable and calm while boarding while allowing pets to still see a little of what is going on around them. In what seemed like no time at all, the facility was a hit with the area and was even totally booked for its first Christmas season.
The years that followed saw many changes as the facility was expanded to allow more pets to be boarded. In 1990, partners Sharon and Joyce expanded by opening a second facility. Then, in 1995, they dissolved their partnership and divided the facilities. Joyce took the helm of our facility and changed the name to Kennel Club Resort & Spa. The next few years saw exciting changes as our runs were completely renovated and we added our swimming pool, which became a huge hit with our clients almost overnight.
In 1998, Joyce decided to sell the facility to VCA, Inc., a local company that at the time operated more than 300 animal hospitals throughout the US. Since 1998, VCA, Inc. has graciously allowed us to operate our facility the way Joyce trained us. We continue to make sure all pets are cared for in a loving manner. It is our goal to make sure pets are returned to their families in the same condition as they were left–happy and with tails wagging!
