Our History

Since 1983, we have been the South Bay's premiere pet resort. Read on to find out more of our beginnings. It is hard to imagine it has been nearly 40 years since we opened our doors.

Originally called The Kennel Club of Southern California, our facility opened in the summer of 1983 after a year of planning. The facility was the brainchild of friends, Joyce and Sharon, who were very disappointed in the quality of boarding kennels in the area. The Kennel Club of Southern California quickly became a popular vacation destination for the pets of the area, having unique offerings such as our signature VIP Room and sunny cat apartments. In addition to unique accommodations, we have always offered the very best in guest care and have always maintained an extremely clean facility, thanks to high standards that Joyce and Sharon’s ingrained in the staff.

In the early 1990s, Joyce and Sharon decided to expand the company by opening a newer and bigger facility near Los Angeles International Airport. The daily operation of each facility was overseen by the entrepreneurs as well as general managers.

In 1995, Joyce and Sharon decided to end their partnership and divide the two facilities, with Joyce being the whole-owner of our location. After a staff shakeup, Joyce was in desperate need of a new manager for her facility and hired Karen Welch who is still our manager today.

VCA became our parent company in 1998 when Joyce decided to sell the facility and pursue other endeavors. While we have been able to streamline most of our daily business functions, the care and comfort of our guests remains our number one priority.
